Bulgaria Continues to Battle Rila Fire

Society | September 9, 2008, Tuesday // 00:00

Bulgarian firefighters, soldiers and volunteers continue battling with the forest fire that rages in the Rila mountain for seventh day.

Two French fire-fighting airplanes "Canadair", which arrived to Bulgaria Sunday night, are also to take part in the efforts to put out the flames, authorities said.

Athens was expected to help Bulgaria by providing special fire-fighting planes, but it was reported that due to increasing fire activity in Greece, sending the planes to Bulgaria was postponed.

The fire in the national park of Rila is raging on an area of about 1400 decares but its spreading had been prevented, the Director of the National Fire Safety Service Nikolay Nikolov has announced.
