Bulgaria Women's Hockey Team Registers Record Loss 0:82 to Slovakia

Sports | September 8, 2008, Monday

Bulgaria's national women's hockey team registered a world record Sunday by losing 0:82 to Slovakia in its final fourth match at a tournament in Latvia.

A total of 37 spectators in the audience witnessed how the Bulgarians received a goal on average every 44 seconds - 82 goals in a 60-minute game.

The Slovakia fiasco came after the Bulgarian team lost 0:41 to Italy, 0:39 to Latvia, and 1:30 to Croatia. Thus, its score in four matches totals 1:192.

The first Bulgarian goalkeeper Lyubomira Shosheva managed to save 200 of the total of 367 shots on goal. The second goalkeeper, the 16-year-old Kameliya Drazheva received 25 goals.

Bulgaria's catastrophic performance comes at no surprise as the women's national team was formed a year ago, and the country does not even have a championship. The only women's hockey clubs are "Slavia" and "Ledeni Iskri" ("Ice Sparks").

"What the Slovaks did to us was kind-of an insulting mockery, and is not at all sportsmanlike", the Chair of the Bulgarian Hockey Federation Dobromir Krustev commented after the game.

Totally agree, given that it was our Paralympic team.

Sorry guys, but Slovak national pride takes over here, and you do have to give the Bulgarian girls credit for not being intimidated, but entering, likely against all odds, to get their first taste of the real world. They'll catch up!

I think the wheelChair of the BG hockey federation got angry because the Slovak girls didnt stop in time and played us like if we were the defending world champion all the time - if it was 60:0 it was ok, but 82:0 clearly shows that the Slovaks were curious to see whether it was possible to make a 3 digit score in a hockey match.

So we succeeded to hold a 2 digit score but nice try from the Slovaks. A record is a record.

did they know how to ice skate???

seems not...did they know they were playing hockey and not
another sport??

if they just lie down in front of their goal they could have lost only 20-0......

Well done girls ! How is it even possible ? The Bulgarian Olympic Team returned meager results, but the hockey team must find its place in the history books as the "best" losers ever.
Did the girls wear sport equipment/clothes or where they dressed in more familiar Bulgarian chalga style - high heels and tight jeans? I can hardly believe they were moving at all.
But in short we will hear they lost because they were intimidated by the Slovakians and they do not receive funds/money from the government/EU.
Well, in Bulgaria it does not matter at all - funds, stolen/drained money in advance or after- nothing will be done !
Shame on you, girls, you make sportmanship to a joke !

at least the spectators will not be able to say that they did not see
enough goals for their ticket of entry...and then important is to
take part

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
