Ten young Roma will take part in a project of the District Interior Directorate in the city of Burgas called "Empowering the Powerless" by supporting the police in the preservation of the public peace in quarters with minority population.
The project will start in September and will continue for eight months. The participating volunteers are from the quarters of Gorno Ezerov, Pobeda, and Meden Rudnik.
The young Roma are expected to be of use mostly in cases of disturbing the public peace at night, domestic violence, and the throwing of garbage at illegal dump sites.
If the project produces successful results, three of the Roma will be hired at the Municipal Directorate for Maintaining the Public Peace and Safety", and three more will be hired by private security firms.
