FC Levski Sofia lost 0-1 to Belarusian team BATE Borisov in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, with coach Velislav Vutsov resigning immediately after the match.
In the 30th minute of the game, the star of the blue team Georgi Ivanov aka Gonzo failed to score from a penalty kick, which was a serious demotivating factor for the team from Sofia. Ivanov misses a second penalty in five days as he failed to score against Vihren Sandanski in Saturday.
In the 54th minute Levski's Georgi Hristov missed a good chance to score a goal shooting from the penalty area with keeper Varemko deflecting the ball.
BATE on the other hand did not miss their chance in the 60th minute when defender Rzhevski headed the ball into the net of Petkov after a corner kick.
It was Levski's ninth consecutive defeat in European club competitions.
Levski qualified for the competition after finishing runners-up to champions CSKA Sofia who were excluded because of outstanding debts to the state and creditors.
Before the game against BATE, manager Velislav Vutsov claimed Levski had great chances to qualify for the groups but after the defeat as hosts, Vutsov had no option but to resign.
