Georgia's Ambassador to Bulgarian Mikheil Ukleba said Tuesday at a press conference in Sofia that Russia's military intervention was not aimed at the situation in South Ossetia but at stopping the Georgian economic progress, and precluding its efforts to join NATO and the EU.

His Excellency also stated Russia wanted to bring down Georgia's President Saakashvili and the democratically elected government.

He was also positive the Russians wanted to cut off the alternative energy route from Central Asia through Georgia to the global market, and to stop the planned construction of the Nabucco gas transit pipeline through Georgian territory so that it could continue its energy blackmailing.

Ukleba pointed that large multinational concerns were suffering huge losses as a result of the military campaign of the Russians, and that they were soon going to sue for their rights.

"All of Georgia with the exception of Tbilisi is already occupied by the Russian troops, who conduct genocide", the Ambassador said hoping the intervention of the international community and the success of the Sarkozy Plan would help resolve the situation.

"We believe Bulgaria is a friend of ours, we are neighbors in the Black Sea and we are Easter Orthodox nations", His Excellency concluded.
