The automatic system for incoming radioactive control of the "Stomana Industry" company in the town of Pernik, has detected a radioactive source located in a freight train car carrying scrap.
The scrap car had arrived at the steel mill Sunday for unloading.
The news has been confirmed by the company's Executive Director Vladimir Nikolov.
According to Nikolov, the freight train car has been taken to a special platform where it had been examined and safe proof measures have been undertaken.
During the examination the experts have discovered the radioactive source - a pipe in which presence of cobalt has been detected.
The radiation levels have been slightly above the norm and do not present any danger for the residents of the town of Pernik, according to Nikolov.
Nikolov further explained that representatives on the Nuclear Regulation Agency, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disasters, and the local municipality have all taken part in the safeguarding of the train car, adding that objects with radioactive radiation are often found in freight cars carrying scrap, but usually the radiation is minimal and harmless for people.
