An organized sabotage action was behind the five-days long trash crisis in downtown Sofia, according to the management of the "Novera" company, owner of the three firms in charge of the cleaning of the capital.

The crisis has been created by the sudden resignations of over 200 employees, who had left without notification. The concessionaries further said that they had suspicions regarding the forces behind the mass resignations, but declined to identify them.

"Novera" was going to request explanations why and on what grounds additional cleaning companies have been hired and are pointing out that their quick selection was suspicious.

The concessionaries firmly deny making statements that their company was going to file for bankruptcy and that they were unable to deal with the problem by themselves.

The "Novera" spokesperson further explained that none of the employees had returned to work and that the company had never delayed, not even by one day, payment of its employees' salaries.

The company's Executive Director, on his part, said Friday that Sofia's trash problem has been eliminated only through the effort of people working for "Novera."

Four downtown districts of Bulgaria's capital Sofia were buried in trash by mid-week, because the concessionaire firm did not remove any of the garbage for five days citing workers' shortage.
