The Political Council of the National Movement for Stability and Progress, which is chaired by Bulgaria's former tsar and for PM Simeon Saxe-Coburg, appointed Friday an election campaign committee.

The measure is part of the party's efforts to prepare to the coming Parliamentary Elections and Elections for Members of the European Parliament, which are supposed to take place in June-August of 2009.

The national elections committee of the NMSP has 26 members including all five ministers of the party in the country's government, plus a number of Members of Parliament and regional coordinators.

The Deputy Chair of the NMSP and former Finance Minister Milen Velchev said the party's goal was to be part of the country's next government by winning 24 parliamentary seats.

The motto of the NMSP campaigns will be: "NMSP Is for Life in Accordance with the Rules".

"NMSP is for life in accordance with rules, for clean business, clean relations with the EU, clean life", Velchev explained.

In his words, the disadvantages of the party were the low ratings, the inefficient party structures, lack of motivation for its members. Velchev also pointed out his party's advantages: the figure of Simeon Saxe-Coburg, its contribution to the NATO and EU accession, and the consistent economic policies.

According to recent polls, the NMSP is going to get well below the 4%-threshold of votes required for any party to have seats in the parliament.

After winning the 2001 elections in a landslide, and forming a government, the NMSP remained second in the 2005 elections, and formed a coalition with the winning Socialists and the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

In the recent months, however, both the party and its royal leader Simeon Saxe-Coburg appear to have lost most of the confidence of the Bulgarian voters.
