Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus presented Monday letters of credence to ArЕ«nas VinДЌiЕ«nas, who is to become the country's first ambassador to the Republic of Bulgaria.
The news was announced by the official site of the President of the Republic of Lithuania.
At the ceremony, President Adamkus underlined that he highly valued the Ambassador's long-years of experience in Foreign Service.
He further noted that Lithuania and Bulgaria were linked not only by official ties, but also by strong historical bonds: Lithuanian Patriarch Dr. Jonas BasanaviДЌius had lived and worked in the Bulgarian town of Varna.
"Such symbolic links demand high responsibility from the Lithuanian Ambassador and also his strong commitment to foster and strengthen bilateral relations," Adamkus said.
According to Valdas Adamkus, it was important to enhance not only political ties, but also contacts between Lithuanian and Bulgarian cultural, academic and business communities.
