A volcano in Hawaii, which is said to be the world's most active one, has begun to spew lava in greater quantities than witnessed ever before, experts warn.

The lava flow from Kilauea, which has been erupting on and off for 25 years, started on Nov 21 last year but experts say that more lava is spilling from the volcano and into the ocean than usual, the Telegraph reported.

Officials at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said that surface flow of lava is snaking eastwards from the crater, while underground "tubes" are also expelling lava into the ocean.

Visitors can observe 12 meters high lava waves gushing from the volcano from a viewing area just a few hundred meters away

Officials say the eruption which started on Sunday poses no danger to residents living nearby.

World's Most Active Volcano Spews Lava in Hawaii
There's an interesting practice in Hawaii that I learned while stationed there.

The native Hawaiians believe Kilauea to be the home of the fire goddess, Pele. When the volcano erupts, rather than flee, like most people would, they go to the liquor store and buy bottles of gin. Then they go up to the crater and throw the bottles in, believing that this will pacify Pele. The park service has an awful time trying to keep them out of danger.
