The airport of Sofia remains closed till at least 6:30 pm Thursday, despite an earlier announcement about the airport's reopening made by Defense Minister Tsonev before the Parliament.

The announcement about the continuing closing of the airport was made by its Executive Director, Plamen Stanchev before Darik radio. Stanchev was adamant that he had not received permission to reopen the airport from the Defense Ministry.

According to Stanchev rumble and detonations could still be heart from the airport.

"It is great that the Defense Minister had allowed for the airport to reopen. However the Transportation Minister had agreed with the Military Chief of Staff and had ordered me to wait to receive a fax. We don't know what is going to happen next. Here at the airport's platform we can still hear continuing rumble," Stanchev stated before Darik radio.

When asked what the check-up of the airport had revealed, Stanchev said that at the moment there were no major problems or damage to the airport and the flight paths and that the check-ups were ongoing.
