Bulgaria Donkeys Become Expensive, High Demand Commodity

The diesel price hike has lead to drastic price increase of donkeys, according to farmers from the village of Boshulya, near the city of Pazardzhik.

Local farmer Angel Milkin states that the price of a good donkey had reached BGN 1000 while until recently they used to sell for BGN 500 or less with sellers often asking more for them than for an used automobile.

Workhorses can still be purchased for BGN 300, but the donkeys are in much higher demand because of their better temper, lower appetite and better work capacity.
