The crew of ship "Adalbert Antonov" is to blame for Tuesday's oil spill near Varna's shipyard, where 250 litres of oil residue leaked into the seawaters, the director of Bulgaria's Maritime Administration, Nikolay Apostolov, said.
The captain of the ship is to bear the responsibility, authorities also said, adding that the minimum fine for violations of the rules for filling a ship with fuel is about BGN 150,000.
Cleaning operations continue in the region and experts say there is no danger of pollution reaching the beaches in nearby resorts.
Three oil collectors have been cleaning the area during the past two days.
