A total of USD 120 M to 150 M would be coming to Bulgaria as US investments in military bases, as reported by the Bulgarian daily newspaper "Standard News".

Most of the money would be going to the US military base to be built near Novo Selo, which is expected to be of the size of an average Bulgarian town.

The Novo Selo military base would have everything necessary for the US rangers to lead a normal, daily life, including medical facilities, fitness centers, libraries, information center, stores and others. The base will also have residential facilities and several helicopter landing fields.

The construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2009 while the base is going to be ready by the end of 2011. 500 US rangers and their entire families would arrive at the base then to live permanently there while deployed to Bulgaria.

Another 2500 US soldiers would use on rotation bases the military facilities in Bezmer, Graf Ignatievo and Aitos, while during certain times of the year up to a 5000 US rangers total would be training and living in Bulgaria.

There are also big expectations for the military airport in Bezmer, which is slated to become one of the 6 strategic military airport bases outside the US, comparable to the ones in Italy, Turkey and Germany. The investment to only lengthen the landing strip is expected to take USD 30 M.

The first 1200 US soldiers would be arriving in the country in August of 2008 to participate in a three-month military practice on the Novo Selo grounds. About 80 US experts are currently in the area to conduct topographical measurements.

The August arrival is expected to become the first step in the accommodation of the US rangers in Bulgaria.
