Socialist Party Activists Take the New Public Transportation Price to Court

Society | June 15, 2008, Sunday // 00:00

A complaint against the new public transportation prices, approved by the Municipal Council, has been filed in the Administrative Court in Sofia by the Discussion Club for Local Social Policy from the Bulgarian Socialist Party.

The main argument of the complaint against the expected price hike beginning July 1, was the fact that the decision had not been announced publicly in order to conduct discussions.

The Deputy Mayor in charge of transportation in Sofia, Velizar Stoilov had stated before Darik radio that the complaint would simply delay the price increase. Such delay, according to Stoilov, would just lead to the public transportation's deprivation of the much needed funds without achieving anything else, since the prices would increase after all at some point of time in the very near future.

In addition to the lack of public discussion, other smaller violations such as discrepancies in the name of the documents for the price change have also been cited in the Club's complaint.
