Detained Bulgaria GDBOP Deputy Director Released on Bail Thursday

Crime | June 12, 2008, Thursday // 00:00

The Sofia Military District Court released Thursday, on a BGN 1000 bail the former Deputy Director of the General Direction for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP).

Procedural reasons have been stated for Ivanov's release- Ivanov had been jailed for over 2 months while the crime he had committed was allegedly not grave and since he has already been fired, he would not be able to use his position of power to influence the investigation against him.

Ivan Ivanov would, however, remain in jail for another week during which the Prosecutor's Office could appeal the decision of Sofia's Military Court.

The Deputy Director was detained for connections with organized crime and for revealing secret information to individuals involved in the so-called Bulgarian "Grey Economy."
