Turkey's General Consul to the Bulgarian city of Burgas Ismail Sefa Uceer has sent a letter to the Mayor of the northeast city of Shumen Krasimir Kostov expressing his embitterment, disappointment, and resent at the recent recognition of Armenian genocide.

The Municipal Council of the city of Shumen adopted on May 29 a "Declaration Recognizing and Denouncing the Genocide over Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-1922.

The letter of the Turkish consul contains Turkey's official position that there had been no genocide and that such declarations must not be adopted by local authorities.

The Mayor of Shumen had accepted the letter as informative, the municipal press service announced.
