Daniel Vulchev, Bulgaria's Education Minister is going to initiate legislation intended to stop the restitution claims of plots located in university yards.

The Ministry is also to create a National Registry of all college dormitories in the country.

"The Studentski Grad ("Students' Town") Quarter in Sofia is turning into something disliked by many", according to the Minister. He wants to stop restitutions in the Town, clean the property so that one could see how the urban planning would look in the area. "Otherwise the parks will continue to disappear from the village", Vulchev has stated.

Sofia University's President Ivan Ilchev voiced a complaint regarding the existence of an already restituted property in the yard of the Foreign Language Department.

The Education Ministry's Chief Secretary pointed out that the National Dormitory Registry would help to bring to light the number of free spaces in those dormitories and to account for the students legally residing there.

Right now there are 126 buildings constructed to become dormitories.

Tuesday, Vulchev and Ilchev officially dedicated the newly remodeled Block 8 in the Student Village.

The dormitory was built in 1972 and since then there have not been any repair works. The reconstruction's cost is estimated at 3 million BGN. The remodeled building now has even a solar studio and many other amenities.

The three top stories of the building have been given for free use for the next five years to the company that executed the repair works at Block 8.
