The Deputy Director of Bulgaria's special GDBOP division for combating organized crime, Ivan Ivanov, was dismissed Monday about eight weeks after he was detained over leaked information accusations.
The discharge order was signed by the newly appointed Interior Minister Mihail Mikov, the high-ranking official confirmed himself in an interview for bTV channel.
Ivanov is currently behind bars after he was put under home arrested for two days three weeks ago.
The defendant has been sent back to jail after the prosecution filed an appeal.
The anti-mafia cop was arrested on March 17 as prosecution launched legal proceedings against him.
The scandal burst out after Atanas Atanasov, a MP from the rightist Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party, provided media with a CD, with a GDBOP investigation operation recorded and the name of Ivanov mentioned.
During the same brawl, the Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry Valentin Petrov took a leave as Atanasov, along with the former GDBOP Director Vanyo Tanov, accused him of concealing Ivanov's activities and helping amphetamines' export from Bulgaria.
