17 Tons of Spoilt Meat from Brazil Discovered in Bulgarian Town of Loznitsa

About 17 000 kg of expired meat most which has been imported from Brazil were discovered Friday in the former canning factory in the town of Loznitsa, District of Razgrad, in northeast Bulgaria.

A legal procedure against an unknown perpetrator for the keeping of dangerous substances in order to sell them on the market has been initiated, the observing prosecutor Tihomir Todorov announced.

The owner of the former canning factory is the businessman Atanas Lichev, who has a firm for the processing of fruits and vegetables, and uses the factory's refrigeration facilities.

The Regional Veterinary and Sanitary Control Unit and the local police are investigating how the expired Brazilian meet ended up in the town of Loznitsa without any labeling.

Most of the meet is pork, and it is not known for sure yet whether part of it had been sold on the market.
