The wall of 120-year old building collapsed in the downtown of the city of Vidin in northwest Bulgaria Friday night due to improper construction practices nearby.
The wall of the building, which is an architectural monument crumbled because of the four-meter deep barrow pit dug next to it for the construction of new building.
The construction firm building the new object had failed to secure the closely located wall of the old building as it was trying to economize funds, local construction experts explained.
During the emergency meeting of the Vidin City Council on Saturday morning called by the Mayor Rumen Vidov over the incident, it was announced that an order for stopping the nearby construction works was issued.
Another order bans persons from approaching the building whose wall collapsed, and the Mayor is order the inspection of all objects under construction in Vidin.
There is currently no danger for the adjacent buildings but the Municipal Administration is ready to evacuate the people living there if any likelihood of new collapses occurs.
