The Bulgarian film director Boris Despodov won Friday the Emerging Artist Award at the 15th annual HBO Hot Docs Film Festival, the Canadian newspaper Toronoto Star reported.
Despodov won the prize for his documentary called "Corridor 8", which is about a massive infrastructure project connecting Bulgaria, Macedonia, and Albania. The documentary had its North American premiere at the festival.
The Emerging Artist Award is given to a first-time director of a feature-length documentary.
"Our jury must have set a new record for consensus - it was pretty much immediate. We agreed right away. This film is gorgeous, hilarious, enlightening and irresistible", the Toronto Star quotes the judging panel as saying regarding their decision about Corridor 8.
