The faces of three Bulgarian presidents are to be hewn into rocks near the town of Simitli, Mayor Apostol Apostolov announced Thursday.

The first head of state elected in a democratic vote Zhelyu Zhelev will be among those, whose images are to be perpetuated in the framework of the new initiative.

Petar Stoyanov, who ruled Bulgaria in the period 1997-2002 and the current President Georgi Parvanov are the other two officials included in the initiative.

Simitli's mayor said the municipality relies on sponsors to finance the realization of the project.
