It is possible that more than eight people died in the fire in the Sofia-Kardam train Thursday night. This was announced Saturday by Prosecutor Valeri Mirchev, who observes the train fire case.
"Separate body parts have been found in addition to charred corpses, and it is possible that these might not belong to the any of the eight bodies", Mirchev told the Bulgaria private Darik Radio.
The Prosecutor said the whole staff of the Forensic Medicine Service in the city of Pleven was working on the autopsies of the corpses in order to help identify them. He also explained the secondary inspection of the two burned train carriages had started, and that all everything found in them would be carefully screened. The two cars are guarded at the train station of the town of Cherven Bryag.
"We cannot work with hypotheses and witness stories only, we need evidence. There is currently no certain information", the Prosecutor stated.
Mirchev called upon all relatives and friends of missing persons who traveled in the Sofia-Kardam train to telephone the Forensic Medicine Service in Pleven. They must announce the names, gender, height, age, and any specific features of those missing in order to speed up the identification process.
According to Mirchev, even the gender of the train fire casualties is still unknown.
