Bulgarian Milk Producers Join Protests during No-Confidence Debates

Politics | February 21, 2008, Thursday // 00:00

Bulgarian milk producers announced they are to join the protest rally organized by the opposition during Thursday's debates over the cabinet's no-confidence vote.

Farmers have staged numerous protests against the government's policy in the milk-producing sector and socialist PM Sergey Stanishev vowed to provide the demanded BGN 0,20 per litre subsidy for the milk placed on the market, but only in case the EC allows.

Milk producers declared they are protesting again, as the Agriculture Ministry have not done anything to fulfill the PM's promise.

Last week, police arrested protesting farmers from the northwest region of Vratza after three days of marching towards the capital along with their cows and milk producers then declared they want the whole government to resign.

The rightist opposition that tabled the no-confidence vote and organized the rally in front of the Parliament says the cabinet must resign, as its corruptness inflicts heavy damages on Bulgarian citizens and discredits Bulgaria's authority within the EU.
