The Serbian parliament met late on Monday to approve the cabinet's declaration annulling the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo, while protests across Serbia and the enclaves in the breakaway province continued.

The MPs declared void all documents that relate to the creation of "a false state on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Serbia."

Belgrade also recalled Serbian ambassador from the US, as Washington recognized independent Kosovo on Monday.

Thousands of protesters rallied in Belgrade with demonstrators going to the St. Sava Orthodox Cathedral for prayers to save Kosovo, but several groups again attacked McDonalds restaurant chains and tried to stone the US embassy.

Kosovo Serbs from Mitrovica prepared Monday massive demonstrations against the independence for the province with more than 15,000 protesting in the town. Protests were also staged in the Serbian enclaves of Gracanica and Shterpce.

On Sunday, when the independence declaration was read, Kosovo PM Hashim declared the independence of Kosovo marks the end of the dissolution of former Yugoslavia and vowed the new country would be democratic and would respect the rights of all ethnic communities.
