Bulgaria's Ruling Socialists Discuss Kosovo

Politics | February 4, 2008, Monday // 00:00

Bulgaria's governing Socialists have organized a round table on Monday to discuss the Kosovo issue and define the party's position over expected declaration of independence of the Serbian province.

Experts acquainted with the problems in the region, as well as representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations will take part in the discussion, members of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) said.

Spokesmen Anguel Naydenov and Kristian Vigenin are expected to make a statement for the media later in the day.

Last week, Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said Bulgaria will not go ahead of the events regarding the future status of Kosovo but will wait for the situation to take a certain direction.

PM Sergey Stanishev in his turn stated that all institutions should continue to update their analyses and present their respective measures in all possible scenarios.

The current discussion comes about 10 days after the former guerrilla leader and current PM of the province Hashim Thaci said Kosovo's independence would be declared within days.
