Rescue teams found Thursday the body of a missing Bulgarian tourist after a four-day search that has been ceased several times due to the bad weather conditions in the Stara Planina.
The 27-year-old Damyan Dimitrov got lost on Sunday when he and two friends of his attempted to cross the mountain ridge in spite of the snow storm and the strong winds raging in the region.
On their way to a chalet, the three tourists were overtaken by two other alpinists, who offered to help the youngsters as Damyan was already exhausted and frozen.
The victim's friends decided to hurry up, bearing in mind the two experienced alpinists would take care of their friend.
After four hours of attempts at helping Damyan and saving his life, the two men abandoned him in a critical condition.
Rescuers warned that the current weather conditions are severe in all Bulgarian mountains and tourists should not leave shelters until the storm stops.
