There was no let-up for passengers at Sofia airport on Tuesday as fog continued disrupting domestic and international flights besides delaying the arrival of others.

Six departing flights to Milan, Munich, Vienna and Prague, serviced by Bulgaria Air, Lufthansa and the Austrian Airlines, have been cancelled.

Flights coming from Istanbul, Brussels, Moscow and Berlin will be diverted to the airport at coastal Burgas and the passengers will be transported to Sofia by a bus.

The thick fog has led to the cancellations of hundreds of flights at Sofia airport ever since the Christmas holidays, disrupting the travel plans of thousands of people.

Sofia airport's runway is outfitted with a category II instrument landing system, which allows landing when vertical visibility is 30 metres and horizontal visibility of at least 350 metres.

The fog blanket is expected to lift not earlier than the end of the week, weather forecasters said.
