Orphanage Sex, Violence Video Causes Scandal in Bulgaria
Society | January 8, 2008, Tuesday
A video featuring Bulgarian orphans engaged in scenes of sex and violence caused a scandal in the country, with prosecution declaring to deal with the case.
Children from an institution in the coastal city of Burgas participated in the video, which is actually a trailer of a new Bulgarian movie called Baklava.
The spokesman of the regional prosecution office in Burgas, Andrey Chervenyakov told reporters on Tuesday that prosecution will check who granted permission to the filmmakers to shoot the children and who actually are the "actors" in the video.
The scandalous video, which shows rapes and drug abuse and can be seen on the Internet, made Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov demand written explanation on the case from government institutions for child protection.
Nikolov is also scheduled to meet Wednesday the directors of the social institutions, in which the scenes were shot.
The director of the film, Alekso Petrov said in a letter to the media that authorities are showing fake concern and he has nothing to explain, as it would be better for people to watch the movie themselves.

actors or orphans or both?
It's not clear to me whether these are scenes 'made up' for the film, or whether they actually represent what happened in an orphanage.
If the Director's motive is to bring bad conditions to the attention of the country, then the shocking scenes could have a useful purpose.
But you have to wonder about pervs getting off on them.

actors or orphans or both?
Bad or good PR, everything is good PR.
Now the film is going to be a success.
Well, beside Trailer 1 I canВґt see anything wrong about. Pulp Ficiton is also cult....

actors or orphans or both?
Whether actors or orphans the point is that somebody thinks something is very wrong in the orphanage. It's about time the Government had a review on the situation regarding it's policy on children in care. I don't think it's necessaryly a question of money more a re-education and a change of attitude of the carers.
