Bulgarian Socialist MP Dies Aged 52

Bulgarian Socialist MP Yassen Penchev passed away after a long illness aged 52, parliament speaker Georgi Pirinski told lawmakers on Wednesday.

Penchev was receiving treatment for an unnamed illness and passed away in the dark hours of Wednesday after his condition worsened suddenly, Pirinski said.

Penchev was elected to parliament from Dobrich and was a member of the Socialist party's Supreme Council. In the parliament he was a member of the agriculture and complaints committees.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
