Bulgaria's nationalist leader Volen Siderov vented his frustration at former ally and current foe Pavel Chernev as the court made a new attempt to move forward the perjury trial against him.

The nationalist leader and his wife have been charged with incitement to perjury for attempting to frame Pavel Chernev following an assault at Trakiya highway in April 2006. Siderov testified to the police that he was with Chernev, trying to hide the fact that his driver has a criminal record from the media.

The scandal shattered the nationalist fraction when it emerged that Volen Siderov's car crashed into another one driven by 22-year-old Yavor Dokov. It was initially reported that Chernev drove the car and punched the young driver after the incident.

During Wednesday's hearing a loud scandal erupted between the two former allies.

"It was you, who did the best to stain my name together with these two guys behind you - the Dokovs family," Siderov yelled, pointing his finger at Pavel Chernev.

"You want to know the truth? The truth is that neither I nor my wife has ever pushed him into perjury," he added.

"The trial is the judicial system's pitiful attempt to suppress a political rebel, while turning a blind eye to the crimes of underworld lords," Volen Siderov said, referring to the recent release on bail of the notorious mobster brothers, Krassimir and Nikolay Marinov.

Pavel Chernev claims that Volen Siderov pushed him into making false statements in court to pervert the course of justice.

"This is not something that I do on a regular basis. I did it once because it concerned a cause in which I deeply believe and which was betrayed but not by me," the burly Chernev, who is currently an independent lawmaker, told the court.

Sivedov and his wife Kapka Georgieva will be summoned once again on February 21, 2008 after she failed to turn up in court due to illness.
