Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov bid good luck to the newest Antarctic expedition of Bulgaria, which includes for the first time Mongolian and Portuguese scientists.

Following an already established tradition, the president met with the nineteen scientists on the eve of their departure. This will be the 16th Bulgarian mission to the icy continent, which comes twenty years after the country's debut. The cost has been set at BGN 200 000.

At the ceremony President Parvanov handed to the leader Professor Hristo Pimpirev the Bulgarian national colours and wished the mission good luck in their work. This mission will expand the Bulgarian field of work, focusing on the continent's climate change and its geological structure.

Bulgarian scientists at the Antarctic are among the most active, they mapped the Livingston Island in 2005, giving all landmarks Bulgarian names and added a dash of fun to their scientific discoveries by tying Spain in the first ever football game played on the continent.
