Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev appointed economist Lazar Lazarov as deputy minister for labour and social policy on Thursday.

Lazarov, 37, was previously an adviser to labour minister Emilia Maslarova since the current cabinet took office in 2005 and was a member of the National Council for Encouragement of Employment.

The economics graduate has an extensive experience in employment policies, the government's press service said.

Lazarov replaces Goran Bankov, who passed away last Thursday after a long illness at the age of 64.
