A worker was killed after being caught in a conveyor belt in an open coal mine near Bulgaria's town of Pernik on Monday.

The tragic accident happened in Republika mine where the electrician Georgi Gyorev got pinned between the coal transporting conveyor belt and rollers. The machine ripped off the worker's leg and Gyorev was found in shock.

The victim died on his way to a nearby hospital due to mass blood loss, medics reported.

Gyorev had 4 months left to retirement.

That is the second accident reported in Republika mine since the beginning of the year. In March three workers were injured in a truck explosion near the pit.

Mine accidents in Bulgaria claimed another five lives after a blast and a collapse occurred in Oranovo coal mine, killing four. One more worker died by methane gas poisoning in a pit near the central Bulgarian town of Tvarditza.
