Bulgaria honoured its warriors killed in battles or on duty on the day for commemoration of the dead in the orthodox calendar.
Mothers of soldiers who died during military service commemorated their lost loved ones at the cemetery in a traditional Bulgarian fashion. On the day of Archangel Michael, orthodox Bulgarian families honor their dead lighting candles in churches throughout the country or at the graves of their depated relatives.
Bulgarians around the country mark on Saturday the All Souls Day, known as Arhangelova Zadushnitza, one of the three biggest all souls' days the Orthodox Christians celebrate every year. Arhangelova Zadushnitza is always celebrated the Saturday before the Archangel Michael Day, which is celebrated on November 8.
On this day the living commemorate all the faithful departed and especially all Bulgarian soldiers and other military officers, who died while on duty.
John, the Bishop of Znepol held an Office of the Dead at the Military Ossuary and Mausoleum at the main Sofia cemetery.
