President Parvanov: Bulgaria-Sweden Economic Relations Lag Behind

Bulgaria and Sweden's economic relations are lagging behind the political ones, Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov said Wednesday at the opening of a joint business forum between the two countries in Stockholm.

President Parvanov opened the forum together with the Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria. Bulgaria's head of state is on a three-day visit to the country at the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Among the main purposes of the event was activating of the economic relations between Bulgaria and Sweden.

"Bulgaria is prepared to support anyone sincerely willing to invest in the Bulgarian economy, the Bulgarian head of state said. Being a EU state, Bulgaria offers conditions as good as any in Europe with certain extras to stimulate foreign investors," President Parvanov said in his opening speech.

Taxes in Bulgaria offer not only the best in Europe but possibly on a world scale too, Parvanov added. He outlined power engineering, tourism, the pharmaceutical and the defense industries as viable areas of cooperation between Bulgaria and Sweden.

During the first day of the visit Parvanov also met Swedish Parliamentary Chairman Per Vesterberg and visited Sweden's Royal Academy and Nobel Museum.
