The European Commission has decided not to enforce a safeguard clause on Bulgaria for agriculture, state radio BNR reported on Wednesday.
Bulgaria will get all the EUR 200,300,000 allocated in the EU budget for direct payments to farmers, because the last expert missions have estimated that the administration and control system is operative, says a report about Bulgaria presented to the EC by Commissioner on Agriculture Mariann Fischer Boel.
She intends to propose cutting agriculture subsidies by 25% for Romania if those in charge do not manage to handle the existing problems by November 9.
"I took the engagement to prevent a safeguard clause on Bulgaria's agriculture and I completed it," the country's Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil said upon hearing the EC decision.
The next goals Bulgaria must achieve is the successful start of the development of farm regions program for the years 2007 through 2013, Minister Kabil added.
