Sofia City Court launched a trial against the MP Yuksel Hatib and Georgi Hristov for failing to adjudge insolvent the sugar plant in Devnya on Wednesday.

Hatib's lawyer demanded on the first hearing the trial to be suspended because legal prescription of the case has expired on August 24, 2007.

According to the prosecution the Hatib and Hristov committed the crime in the period 24 February 2000 - 21 March 2003.

A trial was launched in the Devnya regional court, but was suspended after Hatib was elected member of the parliament. Later, Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev ordered Hatib to be stripped of his immunity so that a new trial could be launched.

"I do not see myself a victim of the prosecution and I expect to be acquitted," Yuksel Hatib said before the court.
