3 Arrested for Attempted Ticket Fraud in at Football Match in Bulgaria

Three men were arrested for attempted ticket fraud following Saturday's Plovdiv football derby between local rivals Lokomotiv and Botev, the Bulgarian police said on Sunday.

Two of the men have been recently hired as security guards for the DAIKS firm, which has a contract to provide security for Lokomotiv's home matches, and were collecting the tickets from fans, which were to be passed later to the third man, who would sell them for a second time.

The trio is now in preventive arrest and are being investigated by the fraud police.

Lokomotiv team officials and the firm are due to meet on Monday to discuss ways to prevent such occurrences in the future, as well as the breakout of violence in the stands during the game, which Lokomotiv won convincingly 4-0.

The local derby is traditionally a charged affair, but at least two fans were injured during Saturday's game.

A 14-year-old Lokomotiv supporter was taken to hospital after his faced was burned by a flare and a 19-year-old Botev fan needed stitches to his brow after a mini-bomb went off in near him.

Both flares and mini-bombs, which are routinely employed because of their loud noise, are banned on Bulgarian stadia, but at least 60 flares and 20 mini-bombs were thrown from the stands during the game, the police said.
