Ailing Cuba's leader Fidel Castro has appeared in a TV interview for the first time for three months now, putting speculation about his death to an end, BBC reported on Saturday.

Castro, 81, has not appeared in public since July last year when he underwent emergency surgery. No official photos or video footages of him have been showed since 5 June.

In the taped interview, Mr Castro spoke slowly with long pauses about a range of topics including the strength of the euro against the dollar.

He also showed a copy of a book by former US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, which was published few days ago.

Castro also delivered some details about the state of his health.

"Well, I'm still here," he said. "And if they say I'm dying, or have died, or I'm going to die the day after tomorrow, well, no-one knows when they're going to die."

Cuban officials have currently announced the country's leader is on the road to recovery.
