2 Britons Given Suspended Sentences for Attacking Bulgarian Policemen

Two UK nationals were given 8-month suspended sentences and three years to be served in probation for attacking policemen in Bulgaria's town of Veliko Tarnovo a week ago.

Under the influence of alcohol, Jonathan Kilmister and Joshua Dodson lay down on a sidewalk at a central street and shouted at the passers-by.

When the two policemen tried to stop them, the Britons attacked the officials, tearing their badges and breaking their radio stations.

The accused have been first detained for 72 hours and after that they were imposed the sentences after a reaching an agreement with the prosecutors.

"The two men said they did not remember what happened at the night of the incident and expressed their deep regrets for disrespect showed to the people and the authorities," prosecutor Valentina Godzhova said.

The UK citizens visited Bulgaria as tourists and celebrated the birthday of a friend of theirs at the night of the incident.
