Bulgaria's trade union Podkrepa demanded Tuesday the resignation of the Education Minister Daniel Valchev in an official letter sent to the prime minister.

"It would be better for the education system as well as for the government if Valchev leaves his post," reads the letter, which has been signed by the union's leader Konstantin Trenchev.

Although the minister talks about implementing serious reforms, they have not been put into practice yet, the union claims.

Minister Valchev has not participated in the negotiations between the striking teachers and his ministry, the syndicate adds.

Podkrepa backed the teachers across Bulgaria, who went on an effective strike until their demands for higher salaries are not satisfied.
