The man, who allegedly shot dead with an arrow an Iraqi citizen in downtown Sofia last week, will be hospitalized in a mental hospital, a court decided.

Filip Dimitrov, 28, who turned himself in two days after the murder of Ali Mohamed Taher, 41, on Tuesday, will be admitted to a psychiatric ward in Sofia for a period of thirty days, the maximum allowed under local legislation.

Sofia city court delivered its verdict after prosecutors pressed for locking the alleged murderer in a mental hospital, saying he is a threat to society and himself.

Dimitrov said he agreed with the court decision, which can be appealed within three days.

Investigators have not yet announced the motive for the murder, but Dimitrov has made a shocking confession for local 24 Hours daily, saying he shot the Iraqi because he hated Arabs.

The tragedy took place in front of a shop on the central Tsar Simeon street where Taher worked. He was rushed to Pirogov Emergency Institute shortly after the shooting but doctors could do nothing to save his life.
