Slavi Binev, a controversial MEP, restaurateur and an archon, will run for Sofia mayor on the ticket of the nationalist Ataka party, its leader confirmed on Sunday.

"The nomination of Slavi Binev may face opposition from some of our supporters," Volen Siderov conceded amid speculations that the nomination was picked under pressure.

Talking to the delegates of the third party congress that took place on Sunday, Siderov pledged to make the upcoming local elections the nationalists biggest foray into "where real power lies".

According to Siderov his party is already coming of age and has the potential to solve the people's problems.

"Our childhood is over," he said to the applauses of the delegates.
