Russian Billionaire Gets Island as 50th Birthday Gift

Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg has received a most unusual and expensive gift for his 50th birthday - an island in the Adriatic sea.

Vekselberg's friend seem to be enough wealthy to buy him a whole 3,200 square meters island near Dubrovnik. He is a frequent visitor of the place, and comes with his yacht to spend some quite days on the island.

The billionaire is said to have more than USD 11 B. In end July he pumped up his stake in the Swiss machinery maker Sulzer.

Vekselberg, who ranks 69th on Forbes' list of billionaires, was born in the Ukraine and made his fortune following the break up of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. Through a series of smaller acqusitions he built up Sual Holdings, one of the largest aluminum companies, now controlled by Rusal. Another of his successes was the Tyumen Oil company which merged with BP.
