Crime | September 4, 2007, TuesdayThe gang had ten members - six Romanians and four Bulgarians. The Bulgarians were counterfeiting and bringing the money into the country, while the Romanians were placing the bills, most of them of the EUR 200 denomination.
Spanish police have been tracking the gang since February, after discovering an increase in the number of counterfeit EUR 200 bills in the city.

The counterfeit currency was of the highest standards, displaying most of the protective features, and undetectable except by the most sophisticated devices.
The four Bulgarians, who lived in the Madrid suburbs, were identified as Ivan M. Y., aged 40, Dimitar J.K., 39, Georgi V.V., 50, and Tocho T.B., 54. Three of them had Spanish residence permits.
