The newly appointed head of the Sofia ER hospital Pirogov has promised to do his best for a wage hike if the hospital's 2,500-strong staff, Darik News reported.

Pirogov head Dimitar Radenovski vowed to work for the pay rise of the staff at a Wednesday meeting with the leader of the protestors Krastyo Penchev and the chairman of the board of directors Matey Mateev.

Radenovski has called on the whole hospital staff not to leave, as they will get higher salaries in September. The money for the wage hike has already entered Pirogov's funds.

Pirogov will undergo thorough audit checks. All contracts, signed by the hospital board will also be checked.

The change in the statute of the hospital, which was one of the many demands of the protesting Pirogov staff, will be discussed at future meetings.

Pirogov Hospital was left without a director after two months of daily protests of the hospital's staff, who, in addition to the demands for higher salaries and change in the statute of the hospital, wanted to oust its previous head Doctor Spas Spaskov.

The hospital staff even went on the first-ever effective strike and Health Minister Radoslav Gaydarski changed the managing board three times in only three weeks.
