US toymaker Mattel has withdrawn three types of dangerous Chinese-made toys from the Bulgarian market as part of its worldwide recall of more than 18 million toys.

This was announced by the National Distributions company, Mattel official representative in Bulgaria.

Chinese-made Sarge die-cast toys from the Pixar film Cars have been recalled from the Bulgarian market because their paint contains lead.

It has also recalled toys containing small magnets that can come loose, including Polly Pocket (only series number B7080, G8602, G8612, G8606, G8605) and an accessory of Barbie doll and Tanner. These were launched on the market before the beginning of the year and 206 pieces of them have been sold.

Experts commented that this is the largest recall not only of toys, but of products from the Bulgarian market and expressed concerns over the long-term impact that the defects may have on the children's health.

The company blamed the amount of lead in the paint on a subcontracted Chinese company called Hong Li Da using paint from unauthorised suppliers.
