Two people have been killed after a heavy truck TIR smashed a microbus near the town of Lukovit, Northwestern Bulgaria, police announced.

A man and a woman, who were travelling in the microbus, died on the spot. Their identities were not immediately known.

The driver of the heavy truck is a 43-year-old Bosnian.

He has been hospitalised with a broken pelvis.

Police is currently combing the area in an attempt to determine the cause of the crash.
